Synergy Spotlight - Community

Who will be participating in the marathon with you, and what role do they play in your training and preparation?

My Sister Annie will run the full Marathon. I was training for the full Marathon but I injured my calf and unfortunately it will not be healed in time for June 4th 2023 to run a full Marathon so I will run 10kms and my sister Eileen & my two sons Daniel & Aidan are joining me & we will run a full marathon between us.

What inspired you to participate in this charity marathon run?

My Sister Annie inspired me to run as she set a personal goal for herself at the start of the year to run a Marathon. We also know these charities extremely well and want to help support them in anyway we can.

How have you been preparing physically and mentally for the marathon?

We’re all doing really well in physical training and feel ready and excited. I’m currently going to physiotherapy after my calf injury to help mentally prepare from running the 10km marathon too.

Which charities will benefit from your participation in the marathon, and why did you choose to support them?

Down Syndrome Ireland - Tipperary & Cork Branches & the Mercy Hospital Kids & Teens Appeal. These charities are close to our hearts and we have family and family friends who are engaging with these charities.

Have you ever done a marathon/charity run before?

I’ve previously done around 7 half marathons. This will be the first Marathon for my sister Annie who is going really well in training.

What do you think will be the biggest challenge you will face during the marathon, and how are you planning to overcome it?

I think the biggest challenge will be for my sister Annine who originally was training for me to be there with her the whole way through. Unfortunately due to my injury I’ll only be with her for 10km. However she is very strong willed and I have confidence she’ll be able to beat any doubts that may come to her mind during the marathon.

How can others support you and your family in your fundraising efforts for the charity?

We have an i-donate link attached to this interview and all donations are welcome.

What message would you like to share with others who may be considering participating in a charity marathon run themselves?

Participation is what it's all about, it doesn't matter what time you finish it, but decide your going to do it, plan & train for it and then accomplish your dream on the date in question - June 4th 2023.
